Jauna Muzika Festival, to gether with the Druskininkai Residence for Artists, presents the international programme of electroacoustic and performative music for Ukrainian, Swedish, and Austrian composers and sound artists. The residents will spend one month in the resort town of Druskininkai before revealing their new compositions April 25 at the Arts Printing House in Vilnius.
The artists are expected to explore the phenomenon of genesis (Greek: origin, birth) through ethnological, acoustic, and sociological lenses. The listener is to witness the spatial potential of electric double bass (Spatial Study I for Electric Bass) by Manu Mayr from Austria, electroacoustic flute (by Serhii Vilka representing Ukraine), the audio-visual ritual of burning eagles, based on recent war experience (by Iryna Novikova, Ukraine/Sweden), and the ambisonic composition based on myths and sounds of nature by Fritiof Palm from Sweden.

Fritiof Palm (SE)
Fritiof Palm is a Swedish freelance composer, arranger, violinist and thereminist born in 1993. He studied at the Malmö Academy of Music – violin with Jörgen Svensson and composition with Rolf Martinsson, Bent Sørensen, and Staffan Storm.
As a musician, he is active in a variety of fields. Most recently, he played Violin Concerto No. 2 by Tor Aulin with Järfälla Symphony Orchestra. He was the arranger, kapellmeister and keyboardist for the Musical Night at the Ystad Theater in Sweden. As a composer, he was invited to the Mostly Modern Festival in Saratoga Springs, USA, where his music was performed by the Exponential Ensemble, while at the UNM festival he presented his Kroppsupptagning for 32 speakers.

Photo credits: Julia BeliaevaInsomnia Taxxi (Iryna Novikova) is a sound artist, composer, and producer focused on experimental electronic music and sound design. Originally from Ukraine, she now lives and works in Sweden. Film, theatre, and sound design for digital art are the key areas of her creative interest. In her conceptual electronic compositions, the realm of experimental sound is dominated by dark melodies, vocals, and synthesizers. She often uses unique video material for her concerts and collaborates with video artists and live VJs. All of her work is marked with metaphysical, mythological, contemplative, social, or political subtext.

Manu Mayr (AT)
Photo credits: Ingo PertramerManu Mayr is a Vienna-born bass player, composer, and producer. The exploration and synergy of diverse sounds and their sociotopes lies at the core of his experiments. As a composer, he makes use of a number of currents that shape modern music-making, from improvisation to experimental electronics. He has performed at a number of top festivals all over the globe. He is the founding member of 5K HD, schtum, Tearing, Kompost 3, and Gabbeh. He is a member of Synesthetic 4 and Studio Dan. As a guest musician, he has played with Klangforum Wien, Phace, Bit20 Ensemble Bergen, Nouvelle Ensemble Contemporain and many other ensembles. Currently he teaches double bass at University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, offering his students a particular emphasis on contemporary music and extended techniques.

Serhii Vilka (UA)
Serhii Vilka i s a Ukrainian composer, flutist, sound artist, and conductor. He is a co-founder of the Sed Contra Ensemble. As a performer, Serhii has played more than 200 world and Ukrainian premieres of music written by Ukrainian and international composers. As a performer and composer of classical music and jazz, he has attended masterclasses and workshops led by Pierre-Yves Artaud, Johannes Schöllhorn, Jerzy Kornowicz, Chaya Czernowin, Zygmunt Krauze, Toshio Hosokawa, Justė Janulytė, Guillaume Auvray, and Eden Ladin. His music has been performed in Ukraine, the USA, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Italy, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Greece, Moldova, and Armenia.
